How much money can I make if I sell my old car?

If you use our services, you can expect up to $9,999. We constantly go above and beyond what other auto buyers provide.

While the car as a whole may provide fairly little value to a potential buyer, the parts probably will to someone else. This may seem a bit paradoxical, as Cash For Cars Gold Coast as a whole clearly contains all the parts, but it is often true.

In fact, I’ve had a case with a motorcycle where selling the engine separately yielded more money than I was likely to get from selling the whole motorcycle. Of course, there were many other parts that could then still be sold, which made selling in parts even more profitable.

It’s amazing how many car parts there are and what some people are willing to pay for them. That plastic dashboard cover is probably pretty worthless to you, but to someone who just broke that part and now needs to replace it, they might easily pay $50 for it. At that point, they just need that part and they’re going to pay for it. Besides, if they had to go to the dealer, they’d probably pay thrice that.

Just to illustrate this point even further: the estimated value of my high-mileage car — which I’m not trying to sell, by the way — is about $600. It’s in a reasonable condition but has a high mileage on it and this turns people off. However, the doors are worth $100 each. If I just sold the doors, I’d rake in $400. Each of the mirrors is worth $50. The front bumper is easily worth $200. The rear bumper is probably also worth that much. By just selling the doors and a bumper, I’d rake in as much as I’m likely to get from the car. And then I have so many other parts left to sell still. I’d wager that I could quite easily get $2,000 from this car if I spent the time to take it apart and sell the parts separately. Compare this to the $600 I would get from selling the vehicle as a whole and you can see that it’s worth taking it apart.

There are other cases where this may be worthwhile. Say you’ve got a relatively low-mileage rusted car in otherwise excellent condition. Rust on the chassis is a major turnoff for many people and thus the car will pretty much be worthless, but the engine, the gearbox, and all the other parts are still in good to excellent condition. You can choose between advertising a rusted car, advertising a low-mileage engine, or a low-mileage gearbox,… It’s pretty clear which will yield the largest return.

However, you have to account for the labor and tools required to take the vehicle apart and advertise the parts separately. You also require a certain amount of expertise to take the vehicle apart and correctly identify and value each part. You may also need to wait for quite a while for some parts to be sold, and this means you will need to store the parts in the meantime.

In conclusion, selling in parts is a bit more work and you may need to wait a bit for the money to come in, but overall, the amount of money selling in parts can yield will be significantly higher for certain vehicles than selling as a whole.
